5.0 out of 5 stars Builds slowly, then can't put it down.

Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2020Verified PurchaseWhat a great read! The story starts off slowly, with a few different scenes and building the backstories. The backgrounds of Washington politics and corporate greed in the power industry set the stage. When they all start coming together, it really takes off. You can feel the pressure and heat as the action goes nonstop on all fronts. I could hardly put the book down at the end.One person found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder and Corruption in DC

Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2020Verified PurchaseAn insider’s tale of the kind of tactics used to cover up the corruption in the electric industry and the lengths politicians and special interest groups will go to get their own way. Fiction? Perhaps! A great read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book!

Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2019Power Lies is a story which gives a behind the scenes look at how things work in Washington. As I read, I kept wondering if these kinds of actions really happen, or if it's simply fiction. The beginning was a bit slow as information was fed to the reader that we need to know to follow the story. For example, acronyms of agencies were spelled out. But after that, I kept reading way past bedtime because I was so hooked into the story. I do recommend this. The reason it didn't get 5 stars is because of editing issues, particularly commas in awkward places. Also, in a couple of spots the wrong character name is used. But, despite these, the story is great. One person found this helpful

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast pace novel with an empowered female lead

Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2020So this story definitely fits into a novella box. At less than a hundred pages it is packed with a lot of storyline in a small box. Since there isn’t much space to waste there is a lot of fast paced action contained in the pages. The plot is intriguing, I almost wish the story were expanded so that we could explore the characters more and understand their motivations. If we lose anything in the fact that the story is a short one, it is that the there is a rushed nature to the story. Without the more thorough character and plot development there is a certain corny factor to the characters and the story, but it doesn’t do much to tarnish the story overall. I was kinda busy otherwise I would have finished this a lot quicker. Thank you to Netgalley for the copy.
